Our Mission
Alegría Women's Chorus of San Antonio is dedicated to the enrichment of San Antonio and its surrounding communities through artistic and educational performances of high-quality choral literature.
Our Vision
Our vision is to expand the visibility of treble music by preserving and honoring the rich literature composed for female voices. We aim to discover and illuminate the beauty of women's choral music, setting a high standard of excellence that challenges and inspires. Our commitment is to encourage involvement, appreciation, and support for this unique genre of music, fostering a vibrant community that celebrates and sustains its legacy.
Our Story
Alegría was established by Jo Scurlock-Dillard to celebrate female voices and the choral music written for them. The purpose of forming such a group is to give women the opportunity to sing together quality choral literature for the woman's voice. Their presence in the community will enrich the San Antonio and surrounding areas at large, through artistic, educational and charitable programs. The choir is made of women from all over San Antonio, the surrounding environs, and beyond. They rehearse each Sunday afternoon, and present two major concerts each season.
